Neuromas Are Painful Problems

Neuromas are powerful due to the pain they cause to the nerves in your feet. It’s not something you can ignore in the hopes that the pain will subside. Neuromas have a tendency to cause sporadic pain in your toes and the ball of the foot.

A neuroma is a swollen nerve that arises at the base of the toes or on the bottom of your foot. This occurs because the tissue next to a nerve increases in size and presses on the nerve. Symptoms of neuromas include numbness, burning, feeling of a bulge between toes and the feeling of walking on an irregular surface. You may also feel an unusual pain or cramp that forms in the toes during movement and which constantly requires massaging the foot to decrease any aching. Some of the factors that bring on the pain of neuromas are flat feet or wearing shoes that are too high or narrow.

You must fight neuromas with the intensity they attack your feet and get the right treatment to overcome their presence.

Treatment for this condition involves:

  • Using cushioning pads or shoe inserts to help with supporting the arch of your foot.
  • Use custom-fitted orthotics in your shoes to reallocate the weight placed on the foot and to enhance support in areas that require it the most.
  • Physical therapy and exercising can significantly help.
  • Surgical methods may be required to remove any offending nerves or to diminish pressure in the area with the neuroma. Surgery may, however, bring about unintended numbness in your feet due to the unpredictability of nerves.
  • Crutches can be very helpful with taking the weight off the injured nerve.
